Restoring antique chairs

Remember a time when people could visit shops?

Well, back when that was still acceptable, a client brought in a couple of antique chairs for cleaning and restoration.

The chairs were decorated / painted with the Scottish crest of the Lyons family.

Someone had started the process of cleaning the painting on one of the chairs and unfortunately carried on slightly beyond the point of realising they might need professional help.

The current owner brought the chairs in and gave the Gadsby’s team the brief to restore the one which had been damaged and to clean the one which hadn’t leaving a pair of matching lovely chairs.

The two ‘before’ images below show first the chair where the crest is worn but is generally undamaged. Second is the crest which has been ‘cleaned’ by in-expert hands and is almost washed away.

Restored, together

The pictures below show both chairs after they have been cleaned and restored by the Gadsby’s restoration team.
