Framing Indentures
We frame a lot of unusual items and these came in fitting that description. There were 4 of them and they are indentures which I have never seen before and I was totally fascinated in them.
Each indenture consists of the legal document and a wax seal.
In this first picture the document is folded and you can see the was seal which is about 2 1/2” deep by 6” in diameter.
This is a picture of the indenture unfolded. All 4 were slightly bigger than A2 and the wax seal is attached to the bottom with a piece of cord.
In fact, the cord has been plated which looks so impressive.
This one is my personal favourite it shows Queen Victoria on the throne.
What is an Indenture?
I wondered what an indenture was as I’d never heard of nor seen one.
An indenture is a legally binding bond or loan document in which two parties agree on a set of conditions and loan terms requiring the borrower to pay the lender a series of principal and interest payments over time.
Box framed indentures
Because these indentures have the deep wax seals the frames need to be boxed to have enough clearance so that the glass does not rest on the wax seal.
