Synthetic brushes come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and have improved beyond all recognition from their introduction many years ago, with manufactures making all sorts of claims about the benefits of their particular brand.
Development of synthetic “hair” has seen the introduction of different strengths and stiffness to suit the various paints and mediums which are available today.
Short round and flat, long round and flat, filbert, stencil and rigger brushes are all available with synthetic bristles of various densities to suit its use. We are also seeing the introduction of different shaped handles to suit the needs of various age groups as the traditional slim handles can be difficult for older users to grip.
One of the down sides of synthetic bristles compared to natural hair is that it does not have the ability to hold as much liquid due to its smooth surface.
Our experts are often asked what is the ‘best brush’ for a particular medium, surface and technique. If you need advice please call in and see us.
